Ivanhoe began teaching Key Stage 4 students from Autumn 2022.
The change to becoming an 11-16 school will give all students the benefit of a more personalised education by creating smaller year groups across the National Forest Hub. The future of education and in particular examinations in the UK will inevitably change following the Covid-19 Pandemic. We are in a unique position to easily be able to change and grow with any new developments because we are not heavily invested in a traditional way of delivering GCSEs. Our open and honest communications with parents and students will ensure that we all work in partnership to ensure the bes outcomes for your children.
We are now members of the LiFE Multi Academy Trust , a MAT that has a proven track record of successfully making the change from 11-14 to 11-16 school. They will support the leaders at Ivanhoe during our transition to ensure our students achieve the best outcomes.
Our Senior Leaders and staff have spent many years developing the Ivanhoe GCSE curriculum, as well as expanding staff expertise. Many staff in school work as examiners, moderators and senior team leaders for a range of examination boards. A large proportion of our staff have experience of teaching their subjects right from Key Stage 3 up to Key Stage 4 and 5. We have kept parents up to date throughout the age change process with various newsletters and other information. If you would like to reread this you can find the information on our website in the Age Range Change Information.
If you decide that Ivanhoe is the school for your child, they will have access to a wide and varied KS4 curriculum, which will include GCSEs, GCSE equivalent qualifications and the chance to gain the International Baccalaureate (EBACC).
Our ‘Truly Great Teaching’ will ensure that we are able to cater to the educational needs of all students, whether they will be pursuing higher level exam papers, or if they have special education needs and require some ‘alternative’ curriculum subjects.
Our curriculum has been carefully designed to provide students with a breadth of study that will open up a range of opportunities for post 16 study.
To meet this aim, students in Year 10 and Year 11 will study:
·· 3 compulsory subjects, (resulting in 5 GCSEs awarded)
· 2 compulsory non examined subjects
· 4 additional option choices.
In total this will result in 9 GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications) for all students.
The following pathway will guide you through the choices students will need to make.
