At Ivanhoe School we provide healthy, home-cooked style meals for hundreds of students every day with a wide variety of options to encourage students to eat well and lead a healthy lifestyle. Ivanhoe catering options work on a rolling to-week menu.
The school shows its commitment to the environment by eliminating our plastic waste and utilising locally grown fresh food wherever possible.
We are proud to say our catering has been rated 5 stars in our environmental health audits for the past 6 visits.
Breaktime
All of our service venues are open at breaktime with warm snacks and drinks available to students such as toast, croissants and sausage/bacon baps.
Lunchtime Hot meals
All students have a choice of hot meal options served within the dining room and the outside meal cab, all with a vegetarian option. Hot meals are available individually but can also be purchased as part of a meal deal with a drink and a cake for the price of a £3.25
All hot meals from the dining room are served on plates with a tray and are eaten inside. Hot Meal Cab items are served on disposable environmentally friendly trays and are to be eaten outside.
We do our best to cater to any students with dietary restrictions. Please ask your child to speak to a member of the kitchen team.
Cold offer
All students have access to a range of cold sandwich options; from egg mayo to chicken tikka. These are available in sandwich or baguette form and are served in the coffee lounge.
Cold food can also be ordered as a grab bag to collect first thing at the start of lunch time so they can attend clubs or not have to wait in the queue. Grab bags can be ordered in the dining room during breakfast opening hours or form time. Deadline to order grab bags is 9am each day.
Drinks
Milkshakes and fruit juices are served as popular alternatives to sugary and fizzy drinks. Fresh drinking water is available throughout the school from drinking taps and water fountains. Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottles to school.
Meal Deals
At Ivanhoe School, all student catering will be charged in accordance with the published price lists in all catering outlets. Meal deals are available to all students as part of our catering offer – this is priced to match free school meal allowances for those eligible students.

Free School Meals
Free School Meals are provided to named students on advice of eligibility from Leicestershire County Council. The daily free school meal allowance in the 2024-2025 academic year is £3.25 and the money is added to each student’s lunch account overnight & any unspent money leaves the account at the end of lunch.
In most schools, Free School Meal allowances are used to provide lunch, but at Ivanhoe where lunch is a little later in the school day, students are also allowed to use the money to purchase items at break or to order a grab bag. Funds are available from 10.30am (Please be aware students cannot use the allowance to buy breakfast items).
For the £3.25 allowance, students can choose from the following options:
Should Free School Meal eligible students wish to purchase items over the allowance amount, they can do so by topping up their accounts via Wisepay.
If you feel that in these changing times you might be eligible for Free School Meals, more information and the application for this can be found with Leicestershire County Council - https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/education-and-children/social-care-and-supporting-families/free-school-meals
Dinner Account Balances
Ivanhoe School uses Wisepay for deposits to its cashless catering system – all parents & carers will be provided with login details. Any Wisepay queries should be addressed to wisepay@ivanhoe.co.uk in the first instance.
We would appreciate if you could ensure you are regularly checking the balance on your child’s account on Wisepay – where you can also view an itemised list of their purchases each day. Students must ensure that they have sufficient funds on their Wisepay account to purchase food and drink before ordering. Catering staff are unable to loan money to students, except in exceptional circumstances that will have been discussed with us. If your child has not brought a packed lunch and has no money on their account, they must report to reception so parents can be contacted to discuss arrangements for that day. If there is a difficulty in providing payment of meals, please contact the school office as soon as possible. All queries and requests for support are confidential and we will always work with families to ensure that a solution is found and that we can continue to ensure all children have access to a meal.
