AQA | Science | GCSE | Combined Science: Trilogy
This GCSE science course follows a mixed programme of biology, chemistry nd physics, and leads to two qualifications in combined science.
Our focus is very much on developing students’ enquiry skills and their understanding of ‘the scientific method’. Lessons involve a mix of practical work and theoretical study.
We help students to deepen their scientific knowledge and their understanding of scientific ideas across the three separate science disciplines.
Topics covered include:
Biology
Cell biology, organisation, infection and response, bioenergetics, homoeostasis, inheritance, evolution and ecology.
Chemistry
Atomic structure, the periodic table, structure and bonding, chemical changes, quantitative chemistry, energy changes, rates of reaction, organic chemistry, chemical analysis and environmental chemistry.
Physics
Energy, electricity, particle model of matter, forces, waves, magnetism and electromagnetism.
The course is assessed through six equally weighted exam papers. Practical work completed during the course will be assessed in these exam papers.
• Biology Paper 1 (16.7% of the GCSE) 1 hour 15 minutes
• Biology Paper 2 (16.7% of the GCSE) 1 hour 15 minutes
• Chemistry Paper 1 (16.7% of the GCSE) 1 hour 15 minutes
• Chemistry Paper 2 (16.7% of the GCSE) 1 hour 15 minutes
• Physics Paper 1 (16.7% of the GCSE) 1 hour 15 minutes
• Physics Paper 2 (16.7% of the GCSE) 1 hour 15 minutes
Students can go on to study A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, as well as a Level 3 BTEC in Applied Science.
Possible career options include
• Doctor • Surgeon • Vet • Dentist • Nurse • Physiotherapist • Marine Biologist • Sports Scientist • Forensic Scientist • Engineer • Armed Forces • Pharmacists • Chemist • Nutritionist
