Course Content

The GCSE Triple Science option offers students an opportunity to further stretch their knowledge and understanding of the three main fields of Physical Science.

Instead of taking Combined Science (2-GCSE Equivalent) students will study Biology, Chemistry and Physics as separate sciences. By taking this pathway, students will receive 3 separate GCSE grades (in each of the three fields) instead of a combined science double grade).

The Triple science option is an ideal stepping stone for students who love science and wish to further their understanding and prepare them for A-levels and a career in science!

Topics covered include:

Biology

You will study the same content as the Combined Science but with extra material such as the eye, structure of the brain, thermoregulation, protein synthesis and plant hormones.

Chemistry

You will study the same content as the Combined Science but with extra material such as transition metals, alloys and corrosion, quantitative analysis and chemical cells and fuels.

Physics

You will study the same content as the Combined Science but with extra material such as space physics, magnetism, motors, levers , gears and rotational forces.

How is this course assessed?

The course is assessed through six equally weighted exam papers. Practical work completed during the course will be assessed in these exam papers.

• Biology Paper 1 (50 % of the Biology GCSE)   1 hour 45 minutes

• Biology Paper 2 ((50 % of the Biology GCSE)   1 hour 45 minutes

• Chemistry Paper 1 (50 % of the     Chemistry GCSE)   1 hour 45 minutes

• Chemistry Paper 2 (50 % of the    Chemistry GCSE)   1 hour 45 minutes

• Physics Paper 1 (50 % of the Physics GCSE)   1 hour 45 minutes

• Physics Paper 2 (50 % of the Physics GCSE)   1 hour 45 minutes

Where will this course take me?

Students can go on to study A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, as well as a Level 3 BTEC in Applied Science.
