The following are tips and activities that are aimed to aid the handwriting development of older students
The aim is to produce a neat and well-presented piece of handwriting. The following options may be more appropriate to support the child. They include;
A good seating position; Right height chair with feet firmly on the floor, knees flexed at 90 degrees, bottom squarely in chair, arms resting lightly on the table and tummy slightly resting on the desk.
Position in class; facing the board, near the front, in a central position in the classroom.
Position of paper; For right or left handed children to have paper slanted towards dominant elbow.
Writing equipment; Shiny paper helps the flow of handwriting, rougher textured paper gives more sensory feedback to the child’s brain regarding the movement they are making.
